This Jamie Oliver Caramelised Onion Chutney is Made with red onions, light brown sugar, a blend of spices including salt, black pepper, ground allspice, and chili flakes, along with two types of vinegar; red wine and balsamic. The best thing about this Caramelised Onion Chutney recipe it's quick, easy to make and vegan.

Ingredients


  • 750g red onions, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes
  • 250g light brown sugar
  • 250ml red wine vinegar
  • 90ml balsamic vinegar

Instructions


  • In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil and finely chopped red onions. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes until the onions start to soften and become translucent.
  • Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, ground allspice, and chili flakes. Stir well and continue cooking for an additional 2 minutes. Your kitchen will start to smell wonderful!
  • Pour in the light brown sugar, red wine vinegar, and balsamic vinegar. Stir everything together and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 20 minutes. The chutney should reduce in volume and become dark and sticky.
  • While the chutney is still hot, carefully transfer it into sterilized jars and seal them tightly.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey to taste.
  • Feel free to customize the toppings with your favorite herbs or nuts.
